Nagpur Airport Modernization Set for June 25 Handover to GMR Group
Nagpur’s international airport is poised for a significant transformation with the official handover to the GMR Group scheduled for June 25. This marks a pivotal moment for the region’s aviation infrastructure, with the GMR Group planning an investment of approximately ₹7,000 crore for expansion and modernization. The project, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to enhance passenger facilities, flight connectivity, and overall airport infrastructure, positioning Nagpur as a key aviation hub in Central India. The modernization efforts are divided into four major packages, including terminal expansion and upgrades, which will incorporate structural modifications and modern passenger amenities to meet international standards. This development is expected to boost the city’s economic growth and create new opportunities.
A significant infrastructure upgrade is also underway for the city’s rail network. The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) is set to implement 13 new rail infrastructure projects aimed at eliminating railway level crossings and improving urban mobility. These projects, which include the development of railway overbridges, underpasses, and pedestrian facilities, are part of a larger statewide plan. The initiative seeks to enhance connectivity, ease traffic flow, and ensure safer movement for both vehicles and pedestrians across Nagpur. MahaRail is prioritizing projects based on traffic demand and feasibility, with a focus on minimal land acquisition.
In addition to these large-scale projects, localized infrastructure development continues. Traffic diversions are in place on the Nagpur-Butibori Road starting June 10 due to pillar construction for Maha-Metro’s Phase 2 project along NH-361. This phase of the metro aims to extend connectivity to the Butibori industrial zone. Meanwhile, the Nagpur-Pune Express train services have been cancelled on June 13 and 14 due to essential engineering and signaling work in Pune Yard, undertaken by Central Railway to strengthen infrastructure and improve operational efficiency.
The city’s political landscape is also active, with the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule for the bye-election to the Nagpur Local Authorities’ Constituency for the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Voting is set for June 18, with results expected on June 22. The announcement has led to the immediate implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the constituency.

Nagpur ke antarrashtriye airport mein bade parivartan ki taiyariyan zoron par hain, jiska adhikarik hastantaran 25 June ko GMR Group ko kiya jayega. Yah nagar ke viman yatra infrastructure ke liye ek mahatvapurn kshan hai. GMR Group lagbhag ₹7,000 crore ka nivesh vistar aur adhunikikaran ke liye karne ki yojna bana raha hai. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model ke tahat chalne wala yah pariyojana, yatri suvidhaon, flight connectivity, aur samagra airport infrastructure ko behtar banane ka lakshya rakhti hai, jisse Nagpur Madhya Bharat ka ek pramukh viman yatra kendra banega. Adhunikikaran ke prayas char bade package mein vibhajit hain, jisme terminal ka vistar aur sudhar shamil hai, jo antarrashtriye manakon ko pura karne ke liye sanrachnatmak parivartan aur adhunik yatri suvidhaen layega. Yah vikas shahar ke arthik vikas ko badhava dene aur nai avasaron ka srijan karne ki ummid hai.
Shahar ke rail network ke liye bhi ek mahatvapurn infrastructure sudhar karyon par hai. Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) 13 naye rail infrastructure pariyojanaon ko lagu karne ja rahi hai, jiska uddeshya railway level crossings ko samapt karna aur shahri gatishilta ko behtar banana hai. Ye pariyojanaen, jinmein railway overbridges, underpasses, aur pedestrian suvidhaon ka vikas shamil hai, ek badi rajya-star par yojna ka hissa hain. Is pahal ka maqsad Nagpur mein connectivity ko badhana, traffic pravah ko aasan banana, aur vahanon aur paidalon dono ke liye surakshit aagaman sunishchit karna hai. MahaRail traffic ki mang aur vyavaharyata ke aadhar par pariyojanaon ko prathmikta de rahi hai, jismein kam se kam bhumi adhigrahan par dhyan kendrit kiya gaya hai.
In bade star ke pariyojanaon ke alawa, sthaniya infrastructure ka vikas bhi jaari hai. NH-361 par Maha-Metro ke Phase 2 project ke pillar nirman ke karan 10 June se Nagpur-Butibori Road par traffic diversion lagu hai. Metro ka yah charan Butibori audyogik kshetra ko connectivity pahunchane ka maqsad rakhta hai. Is dauran, Pune Yard mein Central Railway dwara jaruri engineering aur signalling karya ke karan 13 aur 14 June ko Nagpur-Pune Express train sevaen radd kar di gayi hain, jiska uddeshya railway infrastructure ko majboot karna aur operational efficiency ko sudharna hai.
Shahar ka rajnitik mahol bhi sakriya hai, jismein Election Commission of India ne Maharashtra Legislative Council ke liye Nagpur Local Authorities’ Constituency ki khali seat ke liye upchunav ka schedule ghoshit kiya hai. Matdan 18 June ko hoga, aur parinamon ki jankari 22 June ko aane ki ummid hai. Ghoshna ke baad, constituency mein Model Code of Conduct turant lagu ho gaya hai.
