**Nagpur Faces Infrastructure Challenges Amidst Development Push**

Nagpur is witnessing significant strides in its development landscape, yet persistent challenges remain in the execution of major projects. The ambitious Gandhisagar Lake rejuvenation project, aimed at transforming the urban water body into a premier recreational destination, has encountered further delays. The Phase-2 work, which includes beautification of the viewing gallery, Natik Chowk, and Khau Galli, is now slated for completion by June 2027. A new tender worth approximately ₹8 crore for the remaining civil work is expected to be floated after June 25, 2026. While the vision for Gandhisagar’s transformation is lauded, the extended construction timeline, now spanning eight years, has tested the patience of citizens.

Meanwhile, the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project continues to be a focal point for infrastructure development. Recent approvals include the extension of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) land lease, aligning it with the 30-year concession granted to GMR Nagpur International Airport Ltd (GNIAL). This move is expected to unlock substantial investment and modernize the airport into a major aviation and logistics hub. However, progress within the MIHAN SEZ has seen some stagnation, with approximately 33 companies that were allotted land yet to commence operations, prompting the Development Commissionerate to consider issuing notices.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has presented a substantial budget of ₹5,541.31 crore for the financial year 2026–2027, with a significant portion earmarked for capital expenditure and infrastructure development, including roads and water supply. Despite these financial allocations and infrastructure overhauls, including the ambitious cement road projects, the NMC is facing criticism for using traditional tar for pothole repairs on these new surfaces. This practice raises questions about the long-term sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the infrastructure projects, particularly as the monsoon season approaches.

**नागपूर विकासाच्या दिशेने वाटचाल, पण पायाभूत सुविधांमध्ये आव्हाने कायम**

नागपूर शहर विकासाच्या मार्गावर वेगाने प्रगती करत आहे, परंतु मोठ्या प्रकल्पांच्या अंमलबजावणीमध्ये काही आव्हाने कायम आहेत. गांधीसागर तलावाच्या पुनरुज्जीवन प्रकल्पाचे दुसरे टप्पा, ज्याचा उद्देश या शहरी जलस्रोताला एक प्रमुख मनोरंजक स्थळ बनवणे आहे, त्यात आणखी विलंब झाला आहे. या टप्प्यातील कामांमध्ये व्ह्यूइंग गॅलरी, नाईटिक चौक आणि खाऊ गल्लीचे सुशोभीकरण समाविष्ट आहे, जे आता जून २०२७ पर्यंत पूर्ण होण्याची अपेक्षा आहे. उर्वरित कामांसाठी सुमारे ₹८ कोटींचे नवीन निविदा २५ जून २०२६ नंतर काढण्यात येईल. गांधीसागरच्या नूतनीकरणाची योजना चांगली असली तरी, कामास आता आठ वर्षे लागल्याने नागरिकांच्या संयमाची कसोटी पाहणारी ठरली आहे.

दरम्यान, मल्टी-मोडल इंटरनॅशनल हब एअरपोर्ट ॲट नागपूर (MIHAN) प्रकल्प पायाभूत सुविधांच्या विकासाचे केंद्रबिंदू राहिले आहे. अलीकडील मंजुऱ्यांमध्ये एअरपोर्ट अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया (AAI) च्या जमिनीच्या भाडे करारात वाढ, जी GMR नागपूर इंटरनॅशनल एअरपोर्ट लिमिटेड (GNIAL) ला दिलेल्या ३० वर्षांच्या सवलतीशी जुळते, याचा समावेश आहे. या निर्णयामुळे मोठ्या प्रमाणावर गुंतवणूक मिळण्याची आणि विमानतळाचे एक प्रमुख विमान वाहतूक आणि लॉजिस्टिक हबमध्ये आधुनिकीकरण होण्याची अपेक्षा आहे. तथापि, MIHAN SEZ मधील प्रगती काहीशी मंदावली आहे, कारण सुमारे ३३ कंपन्या ज्यांना जमीन वाटप करण्यात आली आहे, त्यांनी अद्याप काम सुरू केलेले नाही, ज्यामुळे विकास आयुक्त कार्यालयाला नोटीस जारी करण्याचा विचार करावा लागत आहे.

नागपूर महानगरपालिकेने (NMC) २०२६-२७ या आर्थिक वर्षासाठी ₹५,५४१.३१ कोटींचे मोठे अंदाजपत्रक सादर केले आहे, ज्यामध्ये रस्ते आणि पाणी पुरवठा यासह भांडवली खर्च आणि पायाभूत सुविधा विकासासाठी मोठा वाटा निश्चित केला आहे. या आर्थिक वाटपांनंतरही आणि काँक्रीट रस्त्यांसारख्या महत्त्वाकांक्षी प्रकल्पांसह, NMC ला या नवीन रस्त्यांवर डांबराने खड्डे बुजवण्यासाठी पारंपरिक डांबर वापरल्याबद्दल टीका सहन करावी लागत आहे. पावसाळ्याच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर, या पद्धतीमुळे पायाभूत सुविधा प्रकल्पांची दीर्घकालीन टिकाऊपणा आणि खर्च-कार्यक्षमतेवर प्रश्नचिन्ह निर्माण झाले आहे.
