**Nagpur Cement Road Projects Halted Due to Water Scarcity**

**Nagpur, Maharashtra** – The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has temporarily suspended Phase 5 of its ambitious cement-concrete road project, a ₹900-crore initiative, citing acute water scarcity. The decision comes in the wake of the district recording its lowest rainfall in 18 years, leading to critically low water levels in reservoirs.

The project, which initially planned to convert 135 major asphalt roads into concrete roads, was expanded to include approximately 265 roads spanning over 90 kilometers. However, the substantial water requirement for concrete mixing, layering, and curing has made its continuation unfeasible amidst the current water crisis. The NMC has stated that ensuring adequate drinking water supplies for citizens is the administration’s foremost priority, leading to serious considerations of postponing the project’s implementation. This suspension highlights the challenges faced by urban infrastructure development when confronted with environmental concerns and resource limitations.

In a related development, the Maharashtra Government has issued a tender for the roof replacement and renovation of Machine Chamber No. 20 at Ravibhavan in Nagpur. This civil works project, estimated at approximately ₹0.7562 crore, aims to improve the condition of public sector facilities and ensure their continued functionality. The tender process is underway, with a closing date for bids set for October 28, 2026.
