**Nagpur Metro Embraces Renewable Energy with Innovative Solar Project**
Nagpur, Maharashtra – In a significant stride towards sustainable urban transportation, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has successfully commissioned India’s first inter-track solar power project at its Hingna Depot in Nagpur. This pioneering initiative utilizes previously unused space between live metro tracks to generate clean energy.
The pilot project features a 50-kWp solar photovoltaic system installed across a 200-meter stretch. It is anticipated to produce approximately 70,000 units of electricity annually, contributing to a reduction of around 65 tonnes of carbon emissions per year. The generated electricity will be utilized for the depot’s internal energy needs, thereby decreasing reliance on conventional power sources and enhancing the operational energy efficiency of the metro system. MahaMetro has indicated that the success of this project could lead to its expansion to other metro depots, including Mihan, and its integration into future metro infrastructure developments.
