**Nagpur Municipal Corporation Launches Massive Tree Plantation Drive**

Nagpur, Maharashtra – The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has unveiled an ambitious initiative to plant five lakh saplings across the city within the next year. Mayor Neeta Thakre announced on Wednesday that this large-scale campaign, aimed at enhancing Nagpur’s green cover and combating rising urban temperatures, will commence on June 5, World Environment Day. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is slated to inaugurate the drive at Suyog Nagar Garden at 10 a.m. The initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, and saplings will be planted in various locations including gardens, riverbanks, and outskirts of the city, with the active participation of corporators and residents. Preparations for the plantation, including readying pits, are already underway in anticipation of the monsoon season.

The tree plantation drive is part of a broader environmental conservation and cleanliness campaign organized by the NMC, which will extend from June 5 to June 21. This fortnight-long campaign will also include intensive cleanliness drives at city lakes, rivers, drains, gardens, religious places, markets, transport hubs, and heritage sites. Alongside these efforts, the NMC will also conduct a special drive for the collection of electronic waste. Mayor Thakre emphasized the importance of public participation, stating that sustained cleanliness requires more than just municipal efforts and aims to foster lasting behavioral changes among citizens.

In addition to environmental initiatives, the NMC is also actively working on improving city infrastructure and services. The Municipal Corporation has intensified its efforts to remove water hyacinth from city lakes, deploying new machinery to clear approximately 150 to 200 tonnes of the invasive weed daily. Furthermore, the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, “Mission 100 Days,” will continue without interruption. Recent announcements also include the implementation of a ₹1 lakh penalty for polluting natural water bodies and the installation of iron mesh on Nag river bridges to prevent garbage dumping.

The MIHAN (Multi-Modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) project continues to be a significant driver of economic activity. Recently, four Nagpur-based companies have invested approximately ₹1.5 billion in the MIHAN-SEZ, securing land parcels for new facilities that are expected to create around 400 jobs. These investments span various sectors, including lithium-ion battery technology and aircraft component manufacturing, reflecting the diverse industrial growth within the SEZ.

वृक्षारोपण अभियान एनएमसी द्वारा आयोजित एक व्यापक पर्यावरण संरक्षण और स्वच्छता अभियान का हिस्सा है, जो 5 जून से 21 जून तक चलेगा। इस पखवाड़े भर चलने वाले अभियान में शहर की झीलों, नदियों, नालों, बगीचों, धार्मिक स्थलों, बाजारों, परिवहन हबों और ऐतिहासिक स्थलों पर गहन स्वच्छता अभियान भी शामिल होंगे। इन प्रयासों के साथ, एनएमसी इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कचरे के संग्रह के लिए एक विशेष अभियान भी चलाएगा। महापौर ठाकरे ने सार्वजनिक भागीदारी के महत्व पर जोर दिया, यह कहते हुए कि स्थायी स्वच्छता के लिए केवल निगम के प्रयासों से कहीं अधिक की आवश्यकता है और इसका उद्देश्य नागरिकों के बीच स्थायी व्यवहार परिवर्तन को बढ़ावा देना है।

पर्यावरण संबंधी पहलों के अलावा, एनएमसी शहर के बुनियादी ढांचे और सेवाओं को बेहतर बनाने पर भी सक्रिय रूप से काम कर रहा है। नगर निगम ने शहर की झीलों से जलकुंभी को हटाने के अपने प्रयासों को तेज कर दिया है, नई मशीनरी तैनात की है जो प्रतिदिन लगभग 150 से 200 टन आक्रामक खरपतवार को साफ करती है। इसके अलावा, “मिशन 100 डेज” नामक अतिक्रमण विरोधी अभियान निर्बाध रूप से जारी रहेगा। हाल की घोषणाओं में प्राकृतिक जल निकायों को प्रदूषित करने पर ₹1 लाख का जुर्माना लगाना और कचरा डंपिंग को रोकने के लिए नाग नदी के पुलों पर लोहे की जाली लगाना भी शामिल है।

एमआईएचएएन (मल्टी-मॉडल इंटरनेशनल कार्गो हब और एयरपोर्ट नागपुर) परियोजना आर्थिक गतिविधि का एक महत्वपूर्ण चालक बनी हुई है। हाल ही में, नागपुर स्थित चार कंपनियों ने एमआईएचएएन-सेज में लगभग ₹1.5 बिलियन का निवेश किया है, और नई सुविधाओं के लिए भूमि पार्सल सुरक्षित किए हैं, जिनसे लगभग 400 नौकरियों के सृजन की उम्मीद है। ये निवेश लिथियम-आयन बैटरी तकनीक और विमान घटक निर्माण सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में फैले हुए हैं, जो सेज के भीतर विविध औद्योगिक विकास को दर्शाते हैं।
