**Nagpur Grapples with Infrastructure Challenges Amidst Heavy Rainfall**

Nagpur has been significantly impacted by recent heavy rainfall, leading to disruptions in several key infrastructure projects across the city. The incessant downpour has slowed down construction work, with some projects facing temporary halts, raising concerns about potential delays in their completion. The Indora-Dighori flyover project, a major undertaking by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is among the worst affected. Officials are working to mitigate the impact of the weather on construction schedules, particularly for the reinforced earth retaining wall near Daga Hospital.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has also reported a standstill in the ₹150-crore RBI Square–Automotive Square road concretisation project due to the inability to lay fresh concrete during continuous rain. Similar challenges are being faced in other concretisation projects on Wardha Road, Pratap Nagar, and pipeline-laying activities in South Nagpur, Besa, and Beltarodi. These disruptions highlight the vulnerabilities of ongoing development work to adverse weather conditions.

Adding to the civic challenges, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged that incomplete civic works have contributed to waterlogging in some low-lying areas following a recent cloudburst-like event that saw 186mm of rain in 24 hours. While emphasizing that the extreme intensity of the rainfall was the primary cause, he noted that no urban drainage system is designed to handle such unprecedented downpours. The administration is now focusing on rapid response and reassessing future preparedness for increasingly frequent extreme weather events.

Meanwhile, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) continues to push forward with its urban development plans, including the sanction of ₹268.84 crore for Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and a robust sewerage network. Plans are also in motion for the development of a Hi-Tech Business District with an investment of ₹6,400 crore, aiming to position Nagpur as a leading smart city.

सध्याच्या मुसळधार पावसामुळे नागपूर शहरातील अनेक महत्त्वाच्या पायाभूत सुविधांच्या प्रकल्पांवर परिणाम झाला आहे. अविरत पावसामुळे बांधकामाची गती मंदावली असून, काही ठिकाणी कामे तात्पुरती थांबवावी लागली आहेत, ज्यामुळे प्रकल्पांना विलंब होण्याची शक्यता आहे. नॅशनल हायवेज अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया (NHAI) द्वारे हाती घेण्यात आलेला इंदोरा-दिघोरी फ्लायओव्हर प्रकल्प यापैकी एक आहे, जो पावसाचा सर्वाधिक फटका बसलेल्या प्रकल्पांपैकी एक आहे. DAGa रुग्णालयाजवळील रिटेनिंग वॉलच्या कामावर हवामानाचा परिणाम कमी करण्यासाठी अधिकारी प्रयत्न करत आहेत.

सार्वजनिक बांधकाम विभागाने (PWD) RBI स्क्वेअर–ऑटोमोटिव्ह स्क्वेअर रस्ते काँक्रिटीकरण प्रकल्पातही पावसामुळे काम थांबवल्याची माहिती दिली आहे. सततच्या पावसामुळे ताजे काँक्रीट टाकणे शक्य नसल्याने हा ₹150 कोटींचा प्रकल्प ठप्प झाला आहे. वर्धा रोड, प्रताप नगर येथील काँक्रिटीकरण प्रकल्पांमध्ये आणि दक्षिण नागपूर, बेसा आणि बेल्टारोडी येथील पाईपलाईन टाकण्याच्या कामांमध्येही अशाच प्रकारची आव्हाने येत आहेत. या व्यत्ययांमुळे चालू असलेल्या विकास कामांवर प्रतिकूल हवामानाचा कसा परिणाम होतो हे दिसून येते.

नागरिकांच्या समस्यांमध्ये भर घालताना, मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी मान्य केले आहे की, अलीकडील ढगफुटीसारख्या पावसामुळे, ज्यामध्ये २४ तासांत १८६ मिमी पावसाची नोंद झाली, काही सखल भागात साचलेल्या पाण्याला अपूर्ण नागरी कामे कारणीभूत ठरली आहेत. अतिवृष्टी हे मुख्य कारण असल्याचे नमूद करताना, त्यांनी असेही सांगितले की कोणतीही शहरी निचरा प्रणाली इतक्या अभूतपूर्व धोक्याला सामोरे जाण्यासाठी तयार केलेली नसते. प्रशासन आता त्वरित प्रतिसाद देण्यावर आणि वाढत्या तीव्र हवामानाच्या घटनांसाठी भविष्यातील तयारीचे पुनर्मूल्यांकन करण्यावर लक्ष केंद्रित करत आहे.

दरम्यान, नागपूर महानगर प्रदेश विकास प्राधिकरण (NMRDA) आपल्या शहरी विकास योजनांवर काम करत आहे, ज्यामध्ये सांडपाणी प्रक्रिया संयंत्र (STPs) आणि मजबूत सांडपाणी नेटवर्कसाठी ₹२६८.८४ कोटींना मंजुरी देण्यात आली आहे. नागपूरला एक अग्रगण्य स्मार्ट शहर म्हणून स्थान देण्यासाठी ₹६,४०० कोटींच्या गुंतवणुकीसह हाय-टेक बिझनेस डिस्ट्रिक्टच्या विकासाच्या योजनाही प्रगतीपथावर आहेत.
