**Nagpur Poised for Major Urban Transformation with Ambitious Infrastructure Projects**

Nagpur is on the cusp of a significant urban evolution, marked by large-scale infrastructure developments aimed at boosting its status as a key commercial, financial, and technological hub in Central India. The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) is spearheading the “New Nagpur” project, a ₹11,300 crore initiative designed to establish an International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC). This ambitious undertaking, covering approximately 1,710 acres, includes plans for modern infrastructure, commercial spaces, IT and startup facilities, and integrated urban amenities, creating a comprehensive business ecosystem. The project is set to be showcased at the Real Estate & Infrastructure Investors’ Summit (REIIS) 2026 in Mumbai, aiming to attract national and international investment.

Further enhancing connectivity and development zones, the 48-km Outer Ring Road project, with an estimated cost exceeding ₹11,300 crore, is progressing. Complementing this is the proposed ‘Golden Arch’ highway, envisioned as a third peripheral ring road, which is expected to gain planning momentum. These road projects are crucial for easing freight movement, reducing city congestion, and opening up new areas for development. Additionally, NMRDA is undertaking a ₹975-crore project for sewage treatment and drainage, which includes the construction of 12 sewage treatment plants and a vast drainage network to serve peri-urban and newly developing areas.

In the housing sector, Nagpur has recently seen the launch of two affordable housing projects offering a total of 910 homes. These projects, part of a ₹673 crore development package, include units for sanitation workers and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. These initiatives signify a commitment to improving living conditions and providing essential amenities within the city. The city is also preparing for a special enforcement drive by the Transport Department from October 5 to 17 to crack down on out-of-state vehicles evading Maharashtra’s motor vehicle tax, particularly those registered in neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
