Nagpur Sees Progress on Infrastructure Front with Major Highway and Flyover Projects Underway

Nagpur is on the cusp of significant infrastructural transformation, with several key projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion progressing rapidly. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently reviewed major highway and corridor projects across Maharashtra, with a particular emphasis on Nagpur-centric developments. These include the six-laning of the Nagpur–Bhandara and Bhandara–Raipur stretches, which are crucial for improving traffic flow towards Chhattisgarh. Furthermore, progress is being made on the Gwalior–Nagpur and Nagpur–Hyderabad corridors, designed to streamline long-distance freight and passenger movement.

In the realm of urban mobility, residents of east Nagpur can anticipate substantial relief from traffic congestion as three major flyovers are on track for completion by December 2026. These include the 2.71 km IOCL–Nirmal Nagari flyover, the 924-metre Rajendra Nagar–Hasanbag Chowk flyover, and elevated corridors at Jagnade Square. These projects are expected to significantly reduce travel times and improve connectivity within densely populated areas. Additionally, the Nagpur Metro is seeing advancements, with over 50% of the land acquired for Phase II of the project, which aims to extend the metro network to the city’s periphery.

The city’s development is also being propelled by initiatives like the Smart City Project, which involves upgrades in e-mobility, water management, sanitation, and digital governance. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is also planning to construct a Metro Mall within 30 months, further enhancing the city’s commercial infrastructure. These ongoing developments underscore Nagpur’s strategic importance as a growing logistics and transport hub in Central India.

शहरी गतिशीलता के क्षेत्र में, पूर्वी नागपुर के निवासियों को यातायात की भीड़ से काफी राहत मिलने की उम्मीद है, क्योंकि तीन प्रमुख फ्लाईओवर दिसंबर 2026 तक पूरे होने की राह पर हैं। इनमें 2.71 किमी आईओसीएल-निर्मल नागरी फ्लाईओवर, 924 मीटर राजेंद्र नगर-हसनबाग चौक फ्लाईओवर और जगनाडे स्क्वायर पर एलिवेटेड कॉरिडोर शामिल हैं। इन परियोजनाओं से यात्रा के समय में काफी कमी आने और घनी आबादी वाले क्षेत्रों में कनेक्टिविटी में सुधार होने की उम्मीद है। इसके अलावा, नागपुर मेट्रो में भी प्रगति देखी जा रही है, जिसमें परियोजना के दूसरे चरण के लिए 50% से अधिक भूमि का अधिग्रहण कर लिया गया है, जिसका उद्देश्य शहर की परिधि तक मेट्रो नेटवर्क का विस्तार करना है।

शहर के विकास को स्मार्ट सिटी परियोजना जैसी पहलों से भी बढ़ावा मिल रहा है, जिसमें ई-मोबिलिटी, जल प्रबंधन, स्वच्छता और डिजिटल शासन में उन्नयन शामिल हैं। नागपुर महानगर पालिका (एनएमसी) 30 महीने के भीतर एक मेट्रो मॉल बनाने की भी योजना बना रही है, जिससे शहर के वाणिज्यिक बुनियादी ढांचे में और वृद्धि होगी। ये चल रहे विकास मध्य भारत में एक बढ़ते लॉजिस्टिक्स और परिवहन केंद्र के रूप में नागपुर के रणनीतिक महत्व को रेखांकित करते हैं।
