**Nagpur Municipal Corporation Launches Massive Tree Plantation Drive**

**Nagpur, Maharashtra** – In a significant environmental initiative, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced an ambitious plan to plant 5 lakh saplings across the city within the next year. Mayor Neeta Thakre unveiled the campaign on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, highlighting the crucial role of public participation in enhancing the city’s green cover and combating rising temperatures. The initiative is set to be inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on June 5, World Environment Day, at Suyog Nagar Garden.

The tree plantation drive is part of a larger Environment Conservation Fortnight Campaign organized by the NMC, running from June 5 to June 21. This fortnight will include various activities such as cleanliness drives at local lakes, rivers, gardens, and public spaces, alongside tree planting. The campaign draws inspiration from national environmental movements and aims to foster a sense of environmental responsibility among citizens. Preparations for the plantation, including digging pits and soil treatment, are already underway, with saplings to be planted during the monsoon season with the support of the Garden and Social Forestry Departments.

Beyond the immediate plantation efforts, the NMC is also intensifying its drive to remove water hyacinth from city lakes, deploying new machinery to tackle the invasive weed. Mayor Thakre also emphasized the continuation of the ‘Mission 100 Days’ anti-encroachment drive to ensure clear footpaths. The NMC is encouraging citizen involvement through awareness activities and incentive-based programs to ensure the long-term success and maintenance of the newly planted trees.

**नागपूर महानगरपालिकेकडून मोठ्या वृक्षारोपण मोहिमेची सुरुवात**

**नागपूर, महाराष्ट्र** – एका महत्त्वपूर्ण पर्यावरण उपक्रमात, नागपूर महानगरपालिकेने (NMC) पुढील वर्षाभरात शहरात ५ लाख रोपे लावण्याची महत्त्वाकांक्षी योजना जाहीर केली आहे. महापौर नीता ठाकरे यांनी बुधवार, ३ जून २०२६ रोजी या मोहिमेची घोषणा केली, ज्यात शहराचे हरित आच्छादन वाढवण्यासाठी आणि वाढत्या तापमानावर नियंत्रण मिळवण्यासाठी जनजागृतीची भूमिका अधोरेखित केली. केंद्रीय मंत्री नितीन गडकरी जागतिक पर्यावरण दिनानिमित्त, ५ जून रोजी सुयोग नगर उद्यानात या उपक्रमाचे उद्घाटन करणार आहेत.

वृक्षारोपण मोहीम ही एनएमसीद्वारे आयोजित पर्यावरण संवर्धन पंधरवडा अभियानाचा एक भाग आहे, जी ५ जून ते २१ जून पर्यंत चालेल. या पंधरवड्यात स्थानिक तलाव, नद्या, उद्याने आणि सार्वजनिक ठिकाणी स्वच्छता अभियानांसोबतच वृक्षारोपण यासारखे विविध उपक्रम राबवले जातील. ही मोहीम राष्ट्रीय पर्यावरण चळवळींपासून प्रेरित असून नागरिकांमध्ये पर्यावरण विषयक जबाबदारीची भावना वाढवण्याचे उद्दिष्ट ठेवते. रोपांच्या लागवडीची तयारी, खड्डे खोदणे आणि मातीचे उपचार यासह, आधीच सुरू झाली आहे, आणि पावसाळ्यात गार्डन आणि सामाजिक वनीकरण विभागांच्या सहकार्याने रोपे लावली जातील.

वृक्षारोपण प्रयत्नांव्यतिरिक्त, एनएमसी शहरातील तलावांमधून जलपर्णी काढण्याचे प्रयत्नही तीव्र करत आहे, यासाठी नवीन यंत्रसामग्रीचा वापर केला जात आहे. महापौर ठाकरे यांनी पादचाऱ्यांसाठी फुटपाथ मोकळे ठेवण्यासाठी ‘मिशन १०० डेज’ अतिक्रमण विरोधी मोहिमेच्या सुरु ठेवण्यावरही भर दिला. एनएमसी नागरिकांना या नवीन लागवड केलेल्या वृक्षांची दीर्घकालीन देखभाल आणि यश सुनिश्चित करण्यासाठी जागरूकता कार्यक्रम आणि प्रोत्साहन-आधारित उपक्रमांद्वारे सक्रिय सहभागास प्रोत्साहित करत आहे.
