**Nagpur Police Enforce Ban on Beam and Laser Lights During Festive Season**
**Nagpur, November 1, 2026** – In an effort to enhance public safety during the upcoming festive period, the Nagpur Police Commissionerate has issued a directive prohibiting the use of beam and laser lighting systems. This restriction will be in effect from midnight on November 2, 2026, and will continue until December 31, 2026, covering all celebrations and public events within the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction. The order, enacted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, aims to mitigate potential risks to public safety and road users.
The ban encompasses a period that includes major festivals such as Diwali, Laxmi Pujan, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Mahaparinirvan Diwas, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve celebrations. Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil stated that the decision was made in view of the potential hazards these lights can pose, particularly affecting drivers and causing disturbances. This proactive measure by the Nagpur Police underscores their commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for all citizens during the busy festive months.
Furthermore, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has unveiled a comprehensive plan to address the city’s water security concerns, aiming to save 27.7 million litres of water daily. This initiative comes in response to deficient rainfall and significantly lower reservoir storage levels compared to the previous year. Key measures include the reuse of treated sewage water, repair of pipeline leaks, increased utilization of wells, and stricter actions against water wastage. The reuse of treated sewage water from ten sewage treatment plants is projected to save approximately 20 million litres of drinking water per day.
The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has also made significant strides in its ambitious ₹11,300 crore New Nagpur urban development project. The authority has successfully acquired 893 acres of land and disbursed ₹2,160 crore in compensation to farmers. This project aims to establish a modern urban and business district, with plans for phased implementation over 15 years, fostering long-term economic growth and enhancing urban infrastructure for the region.
