**Nagpur Metro Expansion Gets Green Light for Kanhan Corridor**

The Maharashtra government’s infrastructure sub-committee has officially approved a significant expansion for the Nagpur Metro’s Phase-II North Corridor. This new project will extend the metro line by 1.4 kilometers, connecting the Kanhan River to Kanhan town. The estimated cost for this elevated track and new station is Rs 310.35 crore. This development is poised to address a critical transit gap for the population of Kanhan, which is around 35,000 people, and is anticipated to serve approximately 20,000 additional daily passengers once operational.

The approved extension is part of Nagpur Metro’s broader Phase-II expansion, which encompasses four corridors totaling 43.8 kilometers and adding 32 new stations. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity between Nagpur and surrounding residential, industrial, and employment areas. The funding for the Kanhan extension will be a mix of government equity contributions from both the central and state governments, alongside concessional multilateral loans. The Maharashtra government has been progressively disbursing funds, having released equity contributions as part of its commitment to the overall ₹6,708 crore Phase-2 project.

In parallel infrastructure developments, the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) is moving forward with a statewide plan to eliminate railway level crossings and improve urban mobility. Nagpur is slated to benefit from 13 new rail infrastructure projects, which will include railway overbridges, underpasses, and pedestrian facilities. These projects are part of a larger vision for a “railway crossing-free Maharashtra,” prioritizing areas with high traffic demand and aiming to support the city’s growing urban footprint by creating infrastructure ahead of anticipated demand.

Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and traffic police in Nagpur are set to commence an enforcement drive starting July 1, targeting vehicles without High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). Owners who have not installed HSRP or booked an appointment by June 30 will face fines, though those with confirmed appointments will be exempt until their scheduled installation. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with mandatory safety regulations across the state.

इस बीच, नागपुर में क्षेत्रीय परिवहन कार्यालय (RTOs) और यातायात पुलिस 1 जुलाई से शुरू होने वाले एक प्रवर्तन अभियान की शुरुआत करने वाले हैं, जो हाई-सिक्योरिटी रजिस्ट्रेशन प्लेट (HSRP) के बिना वाहनों को लक्षित करेगा। जिन मालिकों ने 30 जून तक HSRP स्थापित नहीं किया है या अपॉइंटमेंट बुक नहीं किया है, उन्हें जुर्माना देना होगा, हालांकि पुष्टि किए गए अपॉइंटमेंट वाले लोगों को उनके निर्धारित इंस्टॉलेशन तक छूट दी जाएगी। इस पहल का उद्देश्य पूरे राज्य में अनिवार्य सुरक्षा नियमों का अनुपालन सुनिश्चित करना है।
