**Nagpur’s Infrastructure Under Scrutiny Amidst Development Push**

Nagpur is witnessing significant infrastructure developments, though challenges in coordination and planning remain. The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has made strides in land acquisition for the “New Nagpur” project, acquiring 410 acres and distributing ₹850 crore in compensation within two months. The first land registration for this ambitious project has also been completed, signaling progress in the city’s expansion plans. However, concerns persist regarding the execution of various projects. A recent flooding incident in southwest Nagpur has highlighted a “complete lack of coordination” among government agencies involved in parallel infrastructure projects. Incomplete roadworks and damaged stormwater systems have exacerbated the impact of rainfall, with unfinished cement concrete road projects and ongoing AMRUT 2.0 sewerage works cited as examples of inter-departmental failures. Residents are facing difficulties due to damaged stormwater drains and un-restored roads following pipeline laying.

Despite these challenges, the city continues to see new initiatives. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) has initiated a tender for road safety enhancements, including traffic signage and gantry installation, with an estimated value of over ₹20 crore. This project aims to improve safety across the SPV Nagpur area. Furthermore, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken over the legacy of the Smart Cities Mission, which has officially concluded. While many projects have been completed, seven remain unfinished, including road infrastructure and a stalled rehabilitation project. The NMC will now bear the substantial maintenance costs for the city’s newly integrated command and control center, extensive CCTV networks, and smart traffic systems.
