Nagpur Gears Up for Major Infrastructure Overhaul and Urban Redevelopment

**Nagpur, Maharashtra** – Nagpur is on the cusp of significant urban transformation, with several key infrastructure projects and urban planning initiatives set to reshape the city in the coming months. A high-level review meeting, led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has prioritized projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, streamlining urban living, and boosting economic growth.

A central focus of the review was the progress on major highway and corridor projects radiating from Nagpur. The six-laning of the Nagpur–Bhandara and Bhandara–Raipur stretches are underway to improve traffic flow towards Chhattisgarh. Additionally, the Gwalior–Nagpur and Nagpur–Hyderabad corridors are being expedited to facilitate long-distance freight and passenger movement. Plans for the six-laning of the Nagpur–Amravati highway are also being examined to bolster intra-regional connectivity within Vidarbha and support industrial expansion.

In a move to create a more organized and commuter-friendly city, Nagpur is set to implement a plan for one organized market for every 1 lakh population. This initiative will include developing dedicated hawker zones with proper facilities and mandating parking in all new construction projects, addressing long-standing issues of roadside encroachments and traffic congestion. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is also planning to construct a Metro Mall within 30 months and has received clearance for the Nag river rejuvenation project.

The city is also witnessing intensive anti-encroachment drives, with the NMC identifying 49 key road stretches choked by illegal structures. To combat this, drives are being planned in coordination with the police, focusing on areas like Sitabuldi market lanes and Futala Lake frontage, to ensure sustained enforcement. Furthermore, Nagpur’s urban development authority, NMRDA, is moving forward with a ₹975-crore sewage treatment and drainage project, along with plans for a new Nagpur Central Jail complex, which will pave the way for redevelopment of prime government land.

समीक्षा का एक मुख्य केंद्र नागपुर से निकलने वाले प्रमुख राजमार्गों और कॉरिडोर परियोजनाओं की प्रगति पर था। छत्तीसगढ़ की ओर यातायात प्रवाह को बेहतर बनाने के लिए नागपुर-भंडारा और भंडारा-रायपुर खंडों को सिक्स-लेन किया जा रहा है। इसके अतिरिक्त, लंबी दूरी के माल ढुलाई और यात्री आवागमन को सुगम बनाने के लिए ग्वालियर-नागपुर और नागपुर-हैदराबाद कॉरिडोर में तेजी लाई जा रही है। विदर्भ के भीतर क्षेत्रीय कनेक्टिविटी को बढ़ावा देने और औद्योगिक विस्तार का समर्थन करने के लिए नागपुर-अमरावती राजमार्ग को सिक्स-लेन करने की योजनाएं भी विचाराधीन हैं।

शहर को अधिक व्यवस्थित और यात्रियों के अनुकूल बनाने के प्रयास में, नागपुर में प्रति 1 लाख आबादी पर एक संगठित बाजार स्थापित करने की योजना लागू की जाएगी। इस पहल में उचित सुविधाओं के साथ समर्पित हॉकर जोन का विकास और सभी नई निर्माण परियोजनाओं में पार्किंग अनिवार्य करना शामिल है, जो सड़कों पर अतिक्रमण और यातायात जाम की लंबे समय से चली आ रही समस्याओं का समाधान करेगा। नागपुर नगर निगम (एनएमसी) 30 महीनों के भीतर एक मेट्रो मॉल बनाने की भी योजना बना रहा है और नाग नदी कायाकल्प परियोजना के लिए मंजूरी मिल गई है।

शहर में अतिक्रमण विरोधी अभियान भी चलाए जा रहे हैं, जिसमें एनएमसी ने 49 प्रमुख सड़क खंडों की पहचान की है जहाँ अवैध निर्माणों से यातायात बाधित हो रहा है। इससे निपटने के लिए, पुलिस के समन्वय से अभियानों की योजना बनाई जा रही है, जिसमें सीता-बर्डी बाजार की गलियों और फुतला झील के सामने जैसे क्षेत्रों पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया जाएगा, ताकि निरंतर प्रवर्तन सुनिश्चित किया जा सके। इसके अलावा, नागपुर का शहरी विकास प्राधिकरण, एनएमआरडीए, 975 करोड़ रुपये की सीवेज उपचार और जल निकासी परियोजना पर काम कर रहा है, साथ ही नए नागपुर सेंट्रल जेल परिसर की योजनाएं भी चल रही हैं, जिससे वार्ड रोड कॉरिडोर के किनारे प्रमुख सरकारी भूमि के पुनर्विकास का मार्ग प्रशस्त होगा।
