**Nagpur Gears Up for Advanced Healthcare with Robotic Surgery System**

Nagpur’s healthcare landscape is set to be revolutionized with the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) becoming the first state-run facility in Maharashtra to offer single-access robotic surgery. The state government has approved a Rs 35-crore system for GMCH, a move anticipated to make advanced surgical procedures accessible to economically weaker sections of society. Currently, such complex surgeries are largely confined to private hospitals, with costs ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹8 lakh. With this new system, patients can potentially access these procedures through the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) and other government concessions, subject to eligibility.

The single-access robotic surgery system allows for minimally invasive procedures through a single, small incision. This advanced technology utilizes miniature cameras and flexible robotic instruments capable of maneuvering through difficult angles, offering surgeons enhanced precision with high-resolution 3D vision. This precision can lead to reduced injury to surrounding tissues, smaller scars, less blood loss, and potentially faster recovery times, with some patients being discharged within 24 to 48 hours post-procedure. The system is versatile and can be employed for a range of complex surgeries, including those involving prostate cancer, urinary bladder tumors, gynecological conditions, and abdominal tumors.

This significant advancement in public healthcare infrastructure underscores Nagpur’s commitment to improving access to cutting-edge medical technology. The introduction of robotic surgery at GMCH is expected to alleviate the financial burden on patients and provide a much-needed boost to the region’s medical capabilities, serving as a vital resource for patients from central India.
