**Nagpur Graduates’ Constituency Election Sees High Voter Turnout Amidst Intense Political Campaigning**

Nagpur, Maharashtra – The Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency election, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, recorded a robust voter turnout of 64.76%, surpassing the 2020 figures. This significant participation is attributed to a concerted campaigning effort by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress. Key political figures, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, actively engaged in campaigning, visiting polling booths and urging citizens to exercise their democratic right. The election saw a contest between BJP candidate Sudhakar Kohale and Congress’s Abhijit Wanjarri. Counting of votes is scheduled for October 27 at Mankapur Stadium, with the preferential voting system to determine the winner.

The intense political activity leading up to the election included rallies, public meetings, and targeted outreach to graduates. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while casting his vote in Nagpur, expressed strong confidence in the BJP’s victory, stating that their candidate Sudhakar Kohale would win with an overwhelming majority. He highlighted the significance of the constituency, noting it reflects the opinions of educated graduates and that their support signifies their endorsement of the BJP’s ideology. Gadkari also emphasized the importance of voting as a fundamental right and a civic duty.

The election for the Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency is part of broader biennial elections to the Legislative Council seats across Maharashtra, including Aurangabad and Pune divisions for Graduates’ constituencies, and Amravati and Pune divisions for Teachers’ constituencies. The competition is primarily between the ruling Maha Yuti alliance and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Allegations of malpractices, including the use of spy pens for distributing money, were raised by NCP SP leader Supriya Sule, who urged the Election Commission and the government to address these concerns to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders under the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, have been imposed across the rural jurisdiction of Nagpur district until October 25, 2026. These orders restrict the assembly of five or more people and the taking out of processions, aimed at maintaining public peace and safety. These measures were in place as various political activities unfolded across the city.
