**Nagpur’s Infrastructure Poised for Major Boost with New Expressways and Airport Modernization**

Nagpur is set to become a pivotal transportation and connectivity hub in central Maharashtra following the State Infrastructure Committee’s approval of four major access-controlled high-speed expressway projects. These projects, spanning approximately 547 kilometers, aim to significantly enhance transport links across Vidarbha, boosting industrial and economic growth. The approved corridors include the Nagpur–Gondia Expressway, Bhandara–Gadchiroli Expressway, Nagpur–Chandrapur Expressway, and the Navegaon More–Konsari to Surjagad Greenfield Road. The total civil construction cost is estimated at over Rs 32,478 crore, with a projected overall expenditure exceeding Rs 51,906 crore. These expressways are slated for completion between September and December 2028, according to state officials.

In parallel, a significant leap forward is anticipated for Nagpur’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. The Union Cabinet has approved a long-term public-private partnership (PPP) framework for its upgradation and modernization. This initiative, part of the larger Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project, will involve extending the lease of Airports Authority of India (AAI) land to MIHAN India Limited (MIL). This will enable MIL to license the airport to GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited (GNIAL) for a 30-year concession period. The modernization aims to transform the airport into a world-class facility, significantly boosting its capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually and enhance cargo handling capabilities.

Furthermore, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is preparing its budget for the upcoming fiscal year, with an expected outlay nearing Rs 6,500 crore. This budget, set to be presented soon, will largely depend on state government funding and focuses on crucial infrastructure development, including road projects, water supply, sanitation, and health services. The NMC also plans to strengthen its revenue generation mechanisms by introducing new advertisement-related charges and revising existing fees. This fiscal push is aimed at addressing the city’s infrastructure needs and enhancing civic amenities for its residents.

In addition to these major development projects, Nagpur is also hosting the ‘Mango and Millet Festival 2026’ from May 15 to May 18 at Kusumtai Wankhede Bhavan. Organized by the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, the festival aims to promote direct sales from farmers to consumers and will feature approximately 20 stalls of Hapus mangoes from various coastal districts, alongside 25 stalls dedicated to nutritious millets. This event offers a platform for local producers and a vibrant experience for the public.

इसके साथ ही, नागपुर के डॉ. बाबासाहेब अम्बेडकर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे में महत्वपूर्ण प्रगति की उम्मीद है। केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने इसके उन्नयन और आधुनिकीकरण के लिए एक दीर्घकालिक सार्वजनिक-निजी भागीदारी (पीपीपी) ढांचे को मंजूरी दे दी है। मल्टी-मॉडल इंटरनेशनल कार्गो हब और एयरपोर्ट एट नागपुर (एमआईएचएएन) परियोजना के तहत यह पहल, हवाई अड्डे के लिए भारतीय विमानपत्तन प्राधिकरण (एएआई) की भूमि का पट्टा एमआईएचएएन इंडिया लिमिटेड (एमआईएल) को बढ़ाने का कार्य करेगी। इससे एमआईएल हवाई अड्डे को 30 साल की रियायत अवधि के लिए जीएमआर नागपुर इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट लिमिटेड (जीएनआईएएल) को लाइसेंस दे सकेगा। आधुनिकीकरण का उद्देश्य हवाई अड्डे को विश्व स्तरीय सुविधा में बदलना है, जिससे इसकी 30 मिलियन यात्रियों की वार्षिक क्षमता में काफी वृद्धि होगी और कार्गो हैंडलिंग क्षमताओं में सुधार होगा।

इसके अतिरिक्त, नागपुर नगर निगम (एनएमसी) आगामी वित्तीय वर्ष के लिए अपने बजट की तैयारी कर रहा है, जिसकी अनुमानित व्यय लगभग 6,500 करोड़ रुपये होने की संभावना है। यह बजट, जो जल्द ही प्रस्तुत किया जाएगा, काफी हद तक राज्य सरकार के वित्तपोषण पर निर्भर करेगा और इसमें सड़क परियोजनाओं, जल आपूर्ति, स्वच्छता और स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं सहित महत्वपूर्ण बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया जाएगा। एनएमसी नई विज्ञापन-संबंधी शुल्क लागू करके और मौजूदा शुल्क संशोधित करके अपने राजस्व उत्पादन तंत्र को मजबूत करने की भी योजना बना रहा है। इस वित्तीय प्रोत्साहन का उद्देश्य शहर की बुनियादी ढांचे की जरूरतों को पूरा करना और निवासियों के लिए नागरिक सुविधाओं को बढ़ाना है।

इन प्रमुख विकास परियोजनाओं के अतिरिक्त, नागपुर 15 से 18 मई तक कुसुम ताई वाखेड़े भवन में ‘आम और मिलेट महोत्सव 2026’ की भी मेजबानी कर रहा है। महाराष्ट्र राज्य कृषि विपणन बोर्ड द्वारा आयोजित, इस उत्सव का उद्देश्य किसानों से सीधे उपभोक्ताओं तक बिक्री को बढ़ावा देना है और इसमें विभिन्न तटीय जिलों के हापुस आमों के लगभग 20 स्टॉल, साथ ही पौष्टिक मिलेट्स के लिए 25 स्टॉल शामिल होंगे। यह आयोजन स्थानीय उत्पादकों के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करता है और जनता के लिए एक जीवंत अनुभव है।
